The Ultimate Stoner

I really wonder what the meaning of stoned is, but here’s a list of games that are really quite… out of this world.

For those with a short-term memory as bad as mine, or are just too lazy to watch the video:

  1. Rez
  2. Katamari Damacy
  3. Super Smash Bros. Melee
  4. Beyond Good & Evil
  5. Lumines
  6. Sly Cooper & the Thievius Raccoonus
  7. Viewtiful Joe
  8. SSX Tricky
  9. Fantavision
  10. Parappa the Rapper

I’ve not played some of these games to comment, but considering that my all-time favourites do include Rez and Katamari Damacy and Lumines, maybe I really am that stoned after all.

There are two games by Tetsuya Mizuguchi-san on the list, so here I am wondering if the much-awaited-for N3 Ninety-Nine Nights would be as fun and wacky as some of the games of this list. Alas, the demo I played was boring (except the really dramatic cutscenes), but that’s for another day.

Quirky Game Revival

So many people wanted Koei to make a Gitaroo Man sequel instead of more and more seemingly similar sequels of Dynasty Warriors.

Well, you guys have got your wish. Koei’s coming out with Gitaroo Man Live for the PlayStation Portable! Brand new music and two-player versus and cooperative modes!

Let’s hope they manage to find a way to stick Flying To My Heart, which arguably has to be one of the better Gitaroo Man songs, in there. Heck, an unlockable extra would rock.

Definitely a must-buy game judging from the great gameplay of the original Gitaroo Man alone.

In other news, my favourite game, Katamari Damacy, is still quite pretty much alive and kicking. Even after the closure of the official Japanese website, we have the website on Namco, which features a Katamari cosplay competition!

And talking about really crazy, we have We Love Katamari speed runs. I may be hardcore about the games, but I doubt I can memorize positions and optimize a path for speed.

Roll, Roll, Roll

It has to be Katamari Damacy.

God, that game is fun. As in fun fun. Fun, fun, fun. And all you do is roll stuff onto a super-sticky ball within the time limit. Roll, roll, roll. Roll the katamari.

Whoever designed the game is a genius. Whoever created the opening song is even more of a genius. It’s weird, it’s haunting and it’s catchy. And it will be my ringtone as soon as I get ahold of it. Mwahahahaha.

Interesting games are what takes the cake in my book. Never mind that the graphics are well, not that nice and flashy.
