Guess who in da house?

My philosophy in life: Short Posts. XD

Damn! Cheng Kai! That post was…long! Baby steps CK, baby steps. Precise and concise. I found your post a little, how would I term it, wordy? No offense intended, just a little constructive criticism aye? ;)

So, anyways, wassup. Its the T kara otte junni ‘a c h i y’all (a lame BOA reference there, but what the heck. Lol). So, a gamer blog huh. That’s a cool. A day in the life of a gamer. I’ll spice it up a little aye? I’ll speak from the perspective of a game developer.

Just a small summary of what I’m gonna talk about in future posts;

Back in the old days (When I was 15, lol), I used to work with a few people from the now defunct ‘Tiberium-Halflife’ modding crew. A majority of them were from Germany, some were from the U.S. and a couple were from the U.K. My function? 3-D modelling. I did models of vehicles which were to be used in the game. It was a pretty cool concept, in fact. The whole idea of an RTS (Real-time strategy) game within a 3-D environment, giving you the ability to see the action from a first-person point of view was. Revolutionary. At that particular point. Heck, back then, Command & Conquer Commandos (presently known as ‘Command & Conquer: Renegade’) wasn’t even heard of in Westwood, the then creators of the Command & Conquer series of games.

First aspect of game developing: Team communication. We used ICQ, a pretty new form of keeping in touch back then. The seasoned veterans taught the new entrees tricks of the trade; the team leaders desseminated information to their team; members communicated with the team leaders, all through ICQ. Ideally, that is. Time zones made it all the more difficult. Members were not sure who were going to be online and at what time. We had great members; models were great, maps were comin’ along fine, 2-D sprites were PERFECT. Communication? Close to nada. The key to a successful game? Planning. Right down to time-zones. Meeting times are key to such an internationally-based project. Sadly, communication breakdown eventually lead to the downfall of the mod. It would have revolutionised Half-life. If only. *sigh*

Next Post: I’ll be talkin’ bout a little ‘Ingredients Contributing to a Successful Game Developing Collboration’ kinda topic. Stay tuned.

My Ill Fate with Phantasy Star Online

There’s a curse going on, I tell ya! There’s a curse behind it all! *throws a look at Joachim, who is totally innocent*

‘History repeats itself.’ - a saying that applies to me so very relevantly.

November of 02, I had had my GameCube for 3 months, and was eagerly anticipating Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1&2. The Japanese version was released a month earlier, but I would need to mod my GameCube, and buy a separate memory card (note for GameCube idiots: US game saves cannot be mixed with Japanese game saves. Not sure about EU game saves, which nobody cares about. :P) if I were to play that version. No, I wanted my GameCube to be a virgin. I was going to hold on longer, and when I hold the game in my hands, I would savour it like a famished beggar would to a fresh piece of bread.

But it was not to be. The US game never reached the sunny shores of Singapore soon enough. November was gone, and December came. Day after day I called my favourite retailer, along with all other reputable game retailers, hoping that the wait would finally be over. My friends and I had already planned our PSO itinery a whole six months ago.

We were all eventually disappointed, for in late December, I had decided to sell away my small collection of GameCube merchandise. I was determined to quit gaming, and that was the first Neil Armstrong step I would take. The US version of said game eventually fell into my fellow GameCube enthusiasts in mid-January.

A weak-minded person I have always been. Hence it was no surprise that I bought my second GameCube in March, 3 months after I dipped my hands into the golden tub. My former passion for the purple machine soon returned, only this time, the machine was platinum.

But not all of my passion came back. In particular, Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2 no longer meant anything to me by then. It was ‘O’ level year, and nobody would have the time to role-play, much less role-play together in a multiplayer title such as thee. Or so we thought..

Why, You Can Terrorise Me All You Want!

Hello everybody! It’s the pink balloon-like hero (read: not monster) in the community speaking here. < ( " )>

I’m the niche videogame player here. No, I have not played Final Fantasy X-2. No, neither have I touched Ninja Gaiden. Or Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. What I have been playing, though, are Pop’n Music 9, Gotcha Force, Donkey Konga and Phantasy Star Online Episode 3.

By the way, Kirby DOES NOT have fur or hair or anything like that. AND IT IS NOT A MONSTER. IT IS NOT SCARY, but loves to be terrorised. ^^

Did’ja know.. that my title in sgGamers, ‘momoiro no bakemono’ literally translates to ‘pink monster’? And that CrashWire was the one who chose that title and forced it unto me after reading one of my Friendster testimonial that described Kirby as a ‘pink monster’?

CastleVania and then some Mayhem

Wooh I’m here to terrorize everyone!! XD Muahahahahah!!!!

Ok erm, first post, ever.

I finished CastleVania Lament of Innocence (Lol, yes, I know, it’s all I ever talk about) and am rather disappointed at how utterly empty I felt at the end of it all. It was undeniably a great game but it just lacked the ultimate satisfaction of completing it. It could be cos I forgot to kill the last hidden boss the Forgotten One (wooh, now we all know why that’s his name).

Anyway, I shall come back again to scare everyone. Until then, take care. XD

Addictions…

Argh! Thanks to ashke, I have an addiction to that blasted game called Collapse now. In fact, I was trying to make impossible to beat high scores (yeah, I tend to do such things) on the MRT today, so much so that I almost missed my stop. Imagine that…

Then again, that happened with Bejeweled too. Ahh, the things that one’s Pocket PC leads one to do…
